The recently launched Abia–Türkiye Investment Summit and Product Exhibition is being presented by the Nigerian state as a symbol of economic progress. However, beneath the polished speeches and diplomatic branding lies a troubling reality: foreign investment deals conducted under Nigeria’s authority continue the historic extraction and exploitation of Biafran resources without the consent of the Biafran people.
For decades, Nigeria has leveraged Biafran land, labour, and raw materials to negotiate international partnerships while denying the region political autonomy, security, and justice. These investment arrangements—no matter how attractively branded—remain structurally illegitimate so long as Biafra exists under occupation.
True trade, lawful bilateral cooperation, and sustainable development can only occur after the international recognition of the Republic of Biafra. Until then, such summits merely recycle the same system that enriches Abuja and foreign partners while Biafran communities endure insecurity, economic marginalization, and systematic repression.
The international community, including Türkiye and other global actors, must understand that any investment conducted through Nigeria in Biafran territory lacks moral, political, and legal legitimacy. Recognition of Biafra is not a barrier to cooperation—it is the foundation for transparent, mutually beneficial, and lawful engagement.
EDITORIAL CALL: SUPPORT BIAFRA’S LIBERATION
Economic forums and foreign investment roadshows cannot substitute for justice and self-determination. Peace, protection, and prosperity for our people will only come through the successful liberation and recognition of the Republic of Biafra.
